Nine date blocks: how to cover several trade shows in one trip

Read the calendar by date rather than by name and the 24 editions collapse into nine blocks. Each block puts related shows on one floor on the same days, so one flight can put you in front of two or three buyer groups.

August is Vietnam’s trade show month. Blocks 4–6 put nine editions at SECC in 17 days, from 5 to 21 August. A cold-chain supplier can exhibit at Viet ColdChain on 5–7 August and then walk Vietfood on 12–14 August, where its customers, the food exporters, have their own booths. Book hotels in Phu My Hung and District 7 when you book the booth.

Three shows run in both cities (Hardware, Elevator, ROBOTEX), and Vietnam Expo and Vietfood have separate northern and southern editions. Choose by your buyer’s location: the north has the electronics belt around Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Hai Phong plus ministries and state groups; the south has the export-processing belt of Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An and the largest consumer market.

Who runs trade fairs in Vietnam: VINEXAD

VINEXAD (Vietnam National Trade Fair and Advertising Company) was founded as a state company in 1975, became a joint-stock company in April 2006 and has been listed on UPCoM since June 2010 (BSC company profile). It is a member of UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry, since 2019, and of the Asian Federation of Exhibition & Convention Associations (AFECA) (UFI; vinexad.com.vn). Vietfood & Beverage – ProPack is a UFI-approved event.

VINEXAD organises Vietnam Expo, the Vietnam International Trade Fair, which has been held since 1991: the Ministry of Industry and Trade hosts it, the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) directs it and VINEXAD organises it (vietnamexpo.com.vn). The partner trade-promotion bodies named on its site include KOTRA, HKTDC, TAITRA, CCPIT, MATRADE, DITP, CzechTrade and FICCI, which is why national pavilions are a regular feature of its fairs. “Vietnam expo” draws 100–1,000 searches a month in Vietnam; “vietnam expo 2027” is already measurable at 10–100.

For a foreign exhibitor this matters in practice: VINEXAD fairs carry ministry backing, attract national pavilions and official delegations, and run matchmaking programmes with trade-promotion agencies. Why exhibit at a trade show in Vietnam in 2027

The useful question is not whether Vietnam is growing, but which kind of buyer is buying, because that decides which show you pick.

1. One of Asia’s fastest-growing economies, trading more than US$930 billion a year

Vietnam’s GDP grew 8.02% in 2025, to about US$514 billion, with GDP per capita of US$5,026 (NSO via Vietnam News, 5 January 2026). Total trade reached a record US$930.05 billion: exports US$475.04 billion, imports US$455.01 billion (NSO via VCCI). The National Assembly set a 2026 growth target of at least 10%. Markets that grow this fast keep adding importers and distributors who need new suppliers.

2. Factories buy most of what Vietnam imports, so industrial suppliers have the larger market

93.6% of 2025 imports were production inputs: machinery and equipment 52.7%, raw materials 40.9% (NSO via VCCI). FDI companies produced 77.3% of exports. Disbursed FDI reached US$27.6 billion in 2025, the highest in five years, across 4,054 new projects (NSO via Vietnam News). If you sell tools, automation, lifts, logistics, cold chain or packaging machinery, the May, August and December blocks put you in front of plant managers and procurement teams who are fitting out those factories.

3. Consumer brands enter through distributors, and the distributors are at the shows

Consumer goods were only 6.4% of 2025 imports, but retail sales grew 9.2% to over VND7 quadrillion (about US$262.7 billion), with food and foodstuffs at +9.7% (NSO via VNA). 4. Free trade agreements change the price your buyer pays

Vietnam reports 17 free trade agreements signed and implemented, including CPTPP, EVFTA (in force since August 2020), UKVFTA and RCEP (Vietnam News, 2026). A Vietnamese importer will check your tariff line at the booth, so check it first. EU, UK, Japanese, Korean and Australian suppliers often arrive with a duty advantage over competitors outside those agreements.

5. A new national venue in Hanoi and a mature one in Ho Chi Minh City

The Vietnam Exhibition Center (VEC) opened in Dong Anh in August 2025 with about 93,000 m² of hall space in its Kim Quy building alone, and Vietnam Expo moved there in 2026 (vec.global; Vietnam News). SECC in Ho Chi Minh City says it hosts more than 7,000 exhibitors and over one million visitors a year. Shows at a new, larger venue have room to grow, and early exhibitors usually get better positions.

6. Getting in is easy for most visitors

The e-visa is open to all nationalities for up to 90 days (Resolution 127/NQ-CP), and citizens of 12 countries including Germany, France, Japan, Korea and the UK enter visa-free for 45 days for any purpose until March 2028 (Resolution 44/NQ-CP). Who should exhibit, who should visit, who should wait

• Exhibit if you have a product that can be legally sold in Vietnam (or a registration under way), a price list in USD with an Incoterm, and a clear target: distributor, FDI factory, retail chain or hospital group.
• Visit first if you are not sure whether Vietnamese buyers will pay your price, or if your competitors are mostly factory-direct Chinese suppliers. A Wisematch visitor programme with pre-booked meetings is a cheaper test.
• Wait if your product needs registration (food, cosmetics, medical devices, some electrical goods) and you have not started it, or if you have no plan for service and spare parts. Buyers will ask, and “later” loses the meeting.
• Buyers sourcing from Vietnam: the VINEXAD calendar is mostly an import calendar. Vietfood and Vietnam Expo’s export zone are useful; combine them with factory visits (see sourcing in Vietnam).

SECC, VEC Hanoi and I.C.E: the three venues

VEC Hanoi: Vietnam Exhibition Center, Dong Anh

• Opened 19 August 2025 after about ten months of construction (vec.global; VOV). 90 ha site.
• Kim Quy hall: ten halls, about 93,000 m² by the operator’s hall-by-hall figures; floors rated up to five tonnes per m² (Tuoi Tre News). Press reports give larger totals, so we use the operator’s figure.
• Access: about 15 minutes from Noi Bai International Airport (Tuoi Tre News). Allow more time from the Old Quarter at rush hour.
• Operator: Vietnam Exhibition Fair Center JSC (VEFAC), a Vingroup company and UFI member.

SECC Ho Chi Minh City: Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center

• Address: 799 Nguyen Van Linh, Tan My Ward (formerly District 7).
• Halls: Hall A and Hall B, column-free with a 76 m span; floor load 5,000 kg/m² (Hall B for static loads); 22,000 m² outdoor area (secc.com.vn).
• Access: about 20 minutes from the city centre and 45 minutes from Tan Son Nhat airport; Cat Lai port 11 km away (SECC).
• Scale: over 7,000 exhibitors and over one million visitors from more than 50 countries a year (SECC).

I.C.E Hanoi: Hanoi International Exhibition Center

I.C.E sits in central Hanoi at the Vietnam–Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, 91 Tran Hung Dao. It opened in late March 2007 and is run by VCCI EXPO (icehanoi.vn). In 2027 it hosts Japan Expo in Hanoi (29–31 July) and Vietfood & Beverage – ProPack Hanoi (3–6 November); it hosted Vietnam Expo in 2025.

How to exhibit at a trade show in Vietnam, step by step

Counted back from opening day. For the May 2027 Hanoi block, month −7 is October 2026.

1. Month −12 to −8: choose the show and city. Send Wisematch your product, target buyer and country. We compare the shows, send the last edition’s figures and the floor plan, and say plainly if a show is wrong for you.
2. Month −8 to −6: book the space. Choose raw space, a standard shell-scheme booth or a place in a shared or national pavilion. Wisematch handles the application and contract; corners and aisle fronts go first, especially at VEC.
3. Month −6 to −4: check product rules. Food, cosmetics, medical devices and electrical goods need Vietnamese registration before sale, and some need permits even for samples. Wisematch tells you which rules apply and connects you with the official forwarder for display goods and temporary import.
4. Month −4 to −2: build the meeting list. Wisematch shortlists 30–50 Vietnamese importers, distributors or factories and invites them by name. A booth without booked meetings depends on whoever walks by.
5. Month −2 to −1: visas, samples, print. Wisematch supplies the exhibitor confirmation and invitation letter where needed. Print a bilingual catalogue with USD prices and an Incoterm; Vietnamese buyers ask for the price on day one.

What a trade show in Vietnam will not do for you

A booth does not guarantee buyers, orders or a distributor. Nobody honest can promise a number of leads, including us. What a good show gives you is three days of access to people who would take months to reach by email. What you take home depends on the meetings you set up before you fly and the follow-up after.
